Inspiration?!.

I have a question for all of you... Yes, YOU!

Where do you find your inspiration?



So, why do I ask...? I want to know what makes you tick, what gets you out of bed, what reasoning you have for doing what you do everyday?

Please, take a moment and really think about these questions. I understand most people will say their family, etc. But I don't think that really is your final answer!

How can I say this? Simple, I know you love your family, but...what's in it for you?

You see, there are two ways to work-out, first is Physically and second there is Spiritually.

We all know the Physical aspect right, get in a great work-out, even if it's only 15 minutes and you feel so much better! But, the Spiritual work-out is much different. You and I both know, that in order to work-out your Soul, it takes little to no physical work at all.

For example, you see a homeless person not bothering anyone, and you feel in your soul to give a little assistance (financial, food, interaction)... How do you feel? As good or better than you do after a physical work-out? Probably. The Spiritual work-out can occur once an hour or once a month, it doesn't matter. It usually feels Great, right?

That's what I'm looking for, what inspires you? I know this isn't your typical post from me, but it really is from me!

I've been blessed by people that I've come in contact with to view them as my Guardian Angels, a.k.a. Mentors. These people have touched my Soul, and have created in me some amazing things I didn't think I could accomplish on my own.

When I sought out to open my own Gym, I sat around one evening with my wife and told her I wasn't sure what I was suppose to be doing in life. Now granted, we were financially stable at the time, living in a dream home and driving nice vehicles...but, I wasn't happy with the direction in which my life was headed. I couldn't imagine staying at my current job for another 26+ years until I could "retire".

So later on that week, I began searching out a few avenues that I would consider changing careers into. Thru my curiosity on the internet, I saw this amazing video of a young man doing a simple Box Jump. Now, you may say, what's a box jump or why are you impressed by a person jumping onto a platform from a static position? Well, it wasn't an ordinary height...it was a static jump onto three boxes, stacked up to a whopping 54 inches!

It impresses the hell out of me, to this day! I couldn't stop watching it, I was so taken by the power and focus it took to complete this task. Right then, I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life! I ran upstairs, woke my wife up, and proceeded to convince her to come down stairs and watch this video. After showing her, I told her this is what I want to do. I want to help athletes and regular gym goers, realize their potential thru training properly (not exactly how I said it to her, hahaha).

I loved working out, I loved showing people proper form and technique, and I felt it in my Soul that it was what I was suppose to be doing!

So now you know a little piece of my story...what is your passion, what is your motivation, better yet what Inspires YOU!!!

Question..?

I have been reading a lot lately about trainers and their clientel... What I find very interesting, is how so many people differ on how young to start a youth athlete. What is the right age to start weight training?

I think there are a lot of factors that go into this equation... Ready?!.

Here goes my two cents...
First, who are your target clients and can you sustain your business with them?

Second, if you are targetting youth athletes, how young are you looking to train?

Third, do you have a specific routine you follow for this type of athlete?

Fourth, do you plan on training these specific clients at certain times only?

Fifth, what atmosphere are you trying to create at Your Facility?

Let me expand. If your target is youths, then what ages are you considering? 7, 8, 9 yrs. old? What can you do with them? Speed Work, Agility, Plyos? Do you have a specific business plan and marketing plan to target this group of kids?

Some parents are very gungho about making their child the next A-Rod or Mia Hamm, but are they realistic? Can you reach their goals on a limited schedule?
They would rather pay you a fee to better there childs abilities, then take there chances on natural selection. So, can you come thru with these expectations?
Come on we've all seen some Coaches only play their child at pivotal positions on a team, not because their child is the best but because it's their child.

What qualifies you to train a 7 year old, on the exercises you are putting them thru? Will these exercises actually make them better? I'm not sure what to do with a 7 year old, let alone do I even want to try.

Having a gym full of 7-9 year olds, won't draw in any true Athletes to your gym. Trust me on this one! I definitely don't want my MMA guys training in the same gym with a 3rd grader. I'm not sure, but I would bet most parents wouldn't either.

I've seen gyms in my area try and cater to everyone in the family, not like a corporate gym. They try and section off the gym in order to have the whole family train at once in different areas. I have yet to see it work?

Can and should kids train with weights and other objects? Sure, is it neccessary? Don't think so. Will it make a big difference in how they play their sport? Maybe?

I personally don't accept any youths under 13 years old, occassionally I will accept a 12 year old. But they need to be very coordinated and show a level of maturity that will add to the atmosphere of the group training.
Don't get me wrong, I love training youth athletes! There are an amazing group of kids that roll thru our doors, and they are making tremendous gains in their strength and athleticism, which is carrying over in to their respected sports.
I choose not to take very young athletes, Why? Because it doesn't serve two purposes... First, they won't add to the Intensity of the gym and how much can an 8 year old do in my facility besides agility drills? Second, they may deter some Serious athletes from joining my gym. I do not run a day care service, I want to train athletes that want to train hard and fast.

Usually my clients have a Goal in mind, when they walk in to our facility. Whatever it may be, that is what we train for and towards. A child that is still learning how to tie their shoes is not to going to add to our atmosphere. If you are still reading this, you probably have a good grasp on your client base and who you like and don't like training.
Find your niche, and go 100% towards it...don't focus on the money.

Stay Positive...

At times not everything seems bright, I believe we all are experiecing new moments of not so great times...
BUT, what if, life was perfect, at all times? What if, we never went without? What if, we had no tests of our will and determination?

Life would suck!

There is a clear separation of those that will, and those that will just complain about those that will.
If everything was perfect there would be no sports, no competition, no voting, no fatty's, no problems and no worries. How freakin' boring would that be?

Life is totally about the tough times, and how tough you become and keep going! If life was perfect, we wouldn't be blogging our opinions, or sharing our triumphs with each other...

For me, I am tired of being sick and tired! We can totally change our outlook on what we are going thru and what we do about it.

I have definitely had a few gut checks this week alone...
Fortunately I am blessed to be able to drop off my kids at school every morning, and I cherish those moments.. But, I definitely was getting way to comfortable. I left out my aggressive nature and just let life keep happening to me. It's time to turn up the fire under my butt and to get going on growing my business so that I may be around for my family all the time!
I am very thankful to have a few Guardian Angels on my side. Do YOU?

Lovin' Life

Just had a great weekend with the family...! Also, we were fortunate enough to be invited down to the O.C. to check out Chad Smith and Company's new Gym, www.JuggernautTrainingSystems.com Beautiful place, with a great Staff!

This week has already started out with a BANG! We unwrapped our new Atlas Stone today, it turned out pretty good (not bad for my first try). I was also honored by a local Gym owner / Coach, Tony Falaro of Authentic Strength Training. He asked me if it would be ok to do a Video Interview for his Blog...of course I said yes, I am blessed to be able to Pay It Forward! I will post the link as soon as I get it, I am very excited to see the finished product.
As a gift to Tony and his Gym, I donated our new Atlas Stone to them, plus I pulled out the video camera as Tony was able to lift it for the very first time...pretty soon he will be tearing the stones up.

Can't wait for tomorrow, clients rolling thru the gym to get jacked and get in crazy shape! Check out this video from last week...

Almost over...

With this year quickly coming to an end, there is light at the end of the tunnel...

There is a new year on the horizon, 2010! Right now is the time not to shutdown or hold back and wait...the time is perfect right now to slingshot yourself forward into the new year. Procrastinating will only leave you where you stand currently, without a bright future. Move quickly to the next endeavour, push forward. The ones that create, won't be left to react.

31 Day Challenge

Hey everyone....
Sorry for the long delay, but we are back and ready to kick A$$!

I am starting this month off with a 31 day straight video porting challenge to myself... Why you may ask? Why not, Challenging yourself can create growth, which is what I am after. You're either Growing or You are Dying!

So I will post the first two vids up here and everyday here on out. Please make any comments or suggestions, and please post anything that may interest you or something we did in a video you would like to see more of...! Thank You in advance.

This first one is a fairly high Box (Tire) Jump... You can see we don't have boxes so we improvise, which is perfect if you are starting your own Garage / Warehouse Gym on a budget. Tires are FREE!

This video shows a few of our younger studs using a Yoke... It is an amazing tool to target your core in every plane, and also to pack on the muscle on these kids.
